Japanese films, anyone watch them?
Me, I love anything with Toshiro Mifune in them as you know it's going to be a cracker also just been tucking into the absolute great Shintaro Katsu as the blind masseur who is also a master swordsman, I can't get enough of them.

A short taste of Mifune:

Possibly the best sword fight of all time

I understand they are very popular in Japan.

Re: Japanese films, anyone watch them?
Well, our very own Takashi Miike is one of my favourite directors of all time. Visitor Q, Audition and Ichi the Killer are some of my favourites by him.

Satoshi Kon was superb but sadly died before he could make a huge amount of films. His film Paprika is one of the greatest of all time and I still don't fully understand it.

Most of the Ghibli films are worth watching.

Kurosawa's filmography speaks for itself.

I'll check out your ones, Cough, can't say I'm too familiar with them.

Re: Japanese films, anyone watch them?
joey, you must check out Yojimbo, the film that A Fistful of Dollars was based on, cracking movie with Mifune at his best

Re: Japanese films, anyone watch them?
Oh sorry, I couldn't view the links at work. I've seen Yojimbo, it is superb! My favourite Kurosawa film is probably Rashomon although it has been a long time since I've watched it... I prefer his more serious films.

I don't think I've seen a bad film by him.

Re: Japanese films, anyone watch them?
- Some of the classic one mentioned

- Not much of Miike but his Ryū ga Gotoku Gekijōban is fun. I was a fan of the games it was based many years ago. Majima Gorō is a great character though Miike makes him too gun heavy.

- Lots of "bad" monster stuff, just saw

Godzilla VS Megalon

again recently. Fun with a group of people.

I've got Rashomon but haven't looked at it yet, I've heard it's good though, same with Throne of Blood (Macbeth)

Re: Japanese films, anyone watch them?
There're loads of films on Youtube of Shintaro Katsu as Zatoichi, just search for Zatoichi, you won't regret it

Have always meant to get into the good anime stuff, like
Studio Ghibli and such but have yet to get around to it.

get hold of 13 Assassins, you'll love that

Re: Japanese films, anyone watch them?
IOC, I'd recommend Spirited Away to start with. Some of the other better Ghibli's include Princess Mononoke, Grave of the Fireflies, When Marnie was There and The Tale of Princess Kaguya.

Other selected non Ghibli anime films
Paprika
Ghost in the Shell
Akira
Cowboy Bebop (should probably watch the series first)
Your Name
Perfect Blue

Ring and The Grudge pt. 2 are 2 of the very few films I'd describe as genuinely scary.

Fantastically made.

The US remakes are fucking terrible and everyone involved should be fired into the sun.

Never seen The Audition but meant to be brilliant

Anyone and I mean anyone who watches anime is a weirdo.

Battle Royal is excellent.

Re: Japanese films, anyone watch them?
Toms, I see that film has Takeshi Kitano in it, should be good, as he took over the Zatoichi role from Shintaro Katsu, another fine actor

Yeah Battle Royal is a good call

Anyone seen the film Reservoir Dogs is based on?
